Dreams to reality as team take off from St Helena
A busier than usual departure today at the St Helena Airport as supporting families and friends all showed up to support and wished good luck to #teamsthelena, who is heading to the NatWest 2023 Island games.
The long journey to the 2023 Guernsey Island games has begun.
The Team will join the remaining team members in the UK, who will then travel to Guernsey together on Friday, 07th July 2023, on arrival they will join the twenty-three-member Islands to compete in this year’s games.
It will be an eye-opening experience for the entire team and especially for the first-time travellers in the group, For some it will be the first to jump onto a big sporting stage to compete in a competition of this size.
This entire journey for the team has not been easy, and there have been many challenges along the way to make this day possible.
Team St Helena and the St Helena FA, who have worked around the clock to make this possible, would like to thank the sponsors and supporters for their continued support in helping to turn the Islands team dreams into a reality.
Fly Airlink, who is St Helena’s commercial Airline provider, is scheduled to arrive at OR Tambo International Airport around 18.52 GMT, where the team will stay overnight before boarding a flight to London for the second leg of the Journey.
The Team is scheduled to arrive in Guernsey PM on Friday, and the opening ceremony for the 2023 Island Games will kick off at 17.00 in St Peter Port.
Two thousand one hundred and ninety-four athletes will compete, over twelve hundred volunteers will assist this event over six days, and one thousand six hundred twenty-eight medals will be awarded.
